Beloved Back Porch

Our back porch was finished this week also! We absolutely LOVE it. We decided to use a maintenance free decking material instead of concrete, and we are really happy with it. The view out the back is just so beautiful and now we can sit on the porch and enjoy it even more!

Trim and Such...

We've been excited this week to see some progress with the trim. Don't get me wrong, they haven't worked every day this week, but we're just happy to some of it done. The casing is done around all of the windows, and all of our hollow-core doors have been installed. The solid-core doors (for the bedrooms and bathrooms) haven't shown up yet... We did get the door frames installed for the front door and the garage service doors, which means we're ready for the brick guys to come back and finish their stuff.

Below are some pictures of this week's progress. We only did crown molding in the dining room and family room area where the ceilings are 12 feet, and in the tray of our master bedroom.

Little By Little...

We are making progress, little by little each week. On Thursday last week, much to our surprise, the exterior trim started to go up! Yesterday, they finished everything they could until the brick is finished. Those darn doors (front door and garage service door) are really a thorn in my side! They are supposed to be on the truck today. This is the 3rd Tuesday in a row that we've heard that since we re-ordered our doors. The main garage door was supposed to be installed already too, but they ordered the wrong track. We have almost 13 foot ceilings in the garage and Steven wants the door to go straight up and turn at the ceiling. We haven't heard when the new track will be in.

We made some progress with the tile floors over the weekend...in our non-air conditioned house! It is so hot here, it's been in the low to mid 90s for almost 2 weeks! And it's humid, but we do love it when we're not tiling! As of this morning, we have 3 bathrooms left to tile and then we need to do the grout. We should get a lot done today, Lee and I will be out there all afternoon and Steven will join us after work. We're hoping to have it done by Thursday when our interior trim package is supposed to be delivered.

We Have Hardwood Floors!

We were shocked, but our wood floors were actually installed on Monday! We chose red oak and we think the stain will be cherry. The flooring company said that they'll give us a couple samples when it comes time to stain the floors so that we can see it with our cabinets.

We finally got our interior trim package ordered this week. It should be delivered by the middle of next week. We're still working on getting our cabinets ordered. The salesman we met with originally was wonderful, but he retired before we placed the order. The new guy wins the award for biggest airhead. All he was supposed to do was take the original quote and subtract glaze from the bathroom cabinets and add full extension drawers. Well, the bid all of a sudden increased over $5000, and he can't figure out why!!! So, we're waiting to talk to "the right" guy to get this straightened out, but he's on vacation this week and won't be back until Monday.

This weekend we're going to start putting the tile down. We're doing it ourselves, with the help of my parents and Lee. We have 4 bathrooms and the laundry room to tile. It won't get done this weekend, but we should get a good start.
