Making Progress!

Finally, the right shingles are on the house!!! We feel like we've made some good progress this week so far. On Monday, our 3rd set of shingles were completed, and they're the right color! We also had our fireplaces installed, one in the family room and one in the bonus room. We even got our septic system installed Monday and Tuesday. Today, the electrician was back finishing a list of things that we've been waiting for over a month to be finished.

If things continue at this rate, we just might see some drywall next week. The insulation is to be dropped off tomorrow so that they can start putting it in over the weekend.

The only part of the brick that hasn't been finished yet is on the front porch and around the service door on the garage. We've been waiting for at least a month for our front door and service door to arrive, only to find out last Friday that what we want doesn't come in steel. They only make the style we wanted in wood. Granted the wood doors are absolutely beautiful, we just don't want the maintenance...so we've picked out new doors, but we are back to the waiting game. The framers were supposed to install door frames tomorrow with construction doors so that the brick can be finished.

Just a little tid bit...Our neighbors that broke ground at the same time that we did, but got away with being their own contractor for the most part, moved into their house almost 2 weeks ago. We're hoping to be in by July 1st, but we know even that might be a long shot considering the last 6 months!

Brick is Almost Done...Almost

Well, the brick is almost done. We're waiting for our front door to arrive and be installed before they can finish the front porch area. They've also run out of brick, we're about 1500 short. We're also waiting for the garage service door to arrive and be installed so that they can finish that doorway as well. Here are the latest pictures.

A quick update on the shingles... The correct shingles have been ordered and are in. At least they should be correct this time. Third time's a charm, right? We're expecting rain for the rest of this week, and mid 70s :), so hopefully they will be able to put the new shingles on next week. Then once the shingles are done, the insulation and drywall can get started. We're really looking forward to that!

Last Saturday, we went to a stone yard to look at granite. That was really fun. We found a couple of stones that we really liked, both in our budget! We've pretty much decided on the one we want, it's called St. Helena.

Still Working on Brick

The brick is going well. We will hopefully be completely done with the brick by the end of the week. We're really pleased with how the brick looks, just not the shingles. As more of the brick goes on, the more we dislike the color of the shingles. While my parents were here for Easter, we finally stopped at the house where we picked out all the exterior colors and talked with the homeowner and her neighbor. They called the builder and he was able to tell us the real color of the shingles. The correct color is called weatherwood, and we currently have brownwood on our house. The saga continues....

Along with our neighbors, who are set to move into their house in the next couple of weeks, we were victims of theft. Last Tuesday night all of the copper was stolen out of our house. It was a little more than 200 ft of copper. Our neighbors' back door was kicked in and about $4000 worth of different items were stolen. We weren't surprised about our copper being stolen, it seems to be happening to everyone here, but we were really surprised that they would actually break into our neighbor's house.

We've also picked out our cabinetry, which has been really fun. We are going with maple cabinets with a glaze. We'll be picking out countertops soon, too. Finally some fun stuff!

We Have Brick!

They actually started putting brick on the house yesterday...as planned! And, bonus, the brick is right! We are really excited about it, and we're optimistic that the shingle color is going to look good with the brick too. We are looking forward to one more day of great weather (low 70s) tomorrow before some rain moves in on Friday and Saturday. Here are some pictures of their progress so far.

February In Review

Sorry it's been so long since our last post, but I'm going to try to catch things up.... The HVAC was completed in the time frame they told us up front; there's a first time for everything! The framing, electrical, and plumbing still aren't completely done. They all have loose ends that need to be finished up. And by loose ends, I mean literally only one day's worth of work for each.

All of our tubs and showers were delivered and installed, with exception of the master tub...it needed to be re-ordered because they put the drain and motor on the wrong sides. It was ordered correctly, just delivered wrong.

The french doors were delivered, but haven't been installed yet (thank you framers).

The new shingles were put on...but they still aren't the right color. We went from a dark charcoal gray/almost black to a dark brown; we picked out a much more neutral color. The shingle company promises they have the right color, but they don't, it's not even close. But, we decided that we're going to wait until the brick goes on to see how it looks. We really hate to waste another set of shingles. We're praying that this is a, "gosh, I'm glad they did this wrong, it looks really good" type of situation!

Now an update for the month of March so far...
The brick was finally delivered (only 2 weeks later than expected). We've met with the cabinet guy to plan them out. He has all the information now and he knows what we want...maple cabinets with a ginger color glaze. Now we just wait for him to come up with 3D drawings for us and the price! We're super excited to see the drawings, not so much to hear the price!

Steven is almost finished running all his wiring. He decided to run all the cable and telephone wire himself. That's not been easy trying to figure out where we want all that to be in each room! The nice thing is that we have attic space above and a crawl space under the whole house, so if we miss something now, he can always add it later...it just won't be as easy!

Our gas lines should be run this week, but we won't hold our breath. Not sure when they'll start putting the brick on the house, but we'll be taking pictures and posting them as soon as they do!

Thanks for your patience in our lack of postings. Hopefully more pictures coming soon!
